I met today with Cecil Chang, a "rock star" neurosurgeon at Palo Alto Medical Foundation. I handed him the CD with my MRI on it and he left to review it in his office. He came back in, eyes wide, and asked me and my mom, "did you see this MRI? Come! Look!" He was of the opinion that I should be operated on sooner, rather than later, to help me retain as much nerve function in my right leg as possible.
So tomorrow it is. This definitely wasn't how I wanted to spend my next three to six months, especially given how much more quickly I've been going around the racetrack lately. Ah well, I'm sure it's happened a million times before to wannabe racers, only more explosively with crashing and broken bones and whatnot. I know I'm pretty lucky.
Oh, and today is my 32nd birthday.

I hope everything goes swimmingly and that you can get back on your bike and do all sorts of foolhardy, dangerous and terribly cool things just as soon as humanly possible. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow and wishing you all the best.
P.S., I bet there's some bitchen pain killers that come with back surgery. Enjoy! ;-)

Do let us know what we can do.
We'll be thinking of you!

In Nomine Patris et Filis et Spiritus Sancti
Watch, O Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight, and give your angels charge over those who sleep.Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ.
Rest your weary ones.
Bless your dying ones.
Soothe your suffering ones.
Pity your afflicted ones.
Shield your joyous ones.
And for all your love's sake. Amen.

Hi...
Umm... I don't know you or anything, but I followed a link from a post by Mr Crash to your journal. I was just getting in to reading about the Spencer school and your various track experiences and then suddenly this. And now, despite not knowing you, I'm kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop, and to read a post saying that it all went OK.I'm hoping that silence doesn't mean you are in ICU, plugged in to lots of machines, or worse, I'm sure I'd have read something on your friends list if it had gone that badly, but I'm still anxious to know (if and when you can get to a computer next)...
1. How was the surgery?
1a. What did they find/do?
2. How is your back now?
3. What's the prognosis?
4. How long do they estimate before you are up and walking?
5. How long do they suggest before you are riding?
6. How long before you are back on track?
7. Do you ever usually get complete strangers asking about your medical conditions?
Sorry to bother you :-).
